My name is Anna Saccone and I live in Dublin, Ireland. I am half Italian, half Irish. I grew up in a very academic family. Both my parents were university lecturers: my father, Eduardo Saccone was a well-respected literary critic and Italian professor. My mother is Irish and my parents met at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where I was born. I lived there till I was seven when my family decided to move to Ireland. I grew up bilingual, speaking both English and Italian and I have lived in the US, Italy, Ireland, Germany and the UK. From a young age, I was taught the importance of language and reading. My father and maternal grandfather were both writers so books have always been a huge part of my life.
Having spent a summer interning at Ralph Lauren in Munich, Germany, I made the decision to move to the UK and pursue my dream of becoming a fashion stylist. I realised that beneath the sparkle and glamour of the fashion industry, there are many young women who struggle with negative body image. Having dealt with similar feelings myself, making people feel better about themselves through fashion and style became my number one goal. I felt compelled to spread the word about how simply changing the style of the clothes you wear can have an enormous effect on the way you feel about yourself. My father encouraged me to write a book about my experiences of this along with my style tips for young women. It was then that The Style Diet was born.
In 2008, my father passed away from cancer and I lost the biggest inspiration in my life. This became the driving force behind my book and I became even more passionate about what I had to say. In February 2009, I began regularly posting YouTube videos under the channel name, TheStyleDiet giving fashion and style tips to improve self confidence to women all over the world. Since then, the positive response I have got has been enormous. Having reached over 20,000 subscribers and over 1.6 million video views, I am now a YouTube partner and I have become the #1 Most Subscribed in How To & Style and the #8 Most Subscribed Channel in Ireland. I receive hundreds of emails everyday from girls as young as twelve, who struggle with negative body image and low self-esteem. This has become my inspiration to keep going and to educate young teenagers about the importance of feeling comfortable with the way you look.
